Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) Mechanical Joint Integrity (MJI) training and testing is to be delivered in Italy for the first time.
UVIT srl has become the first ECITB Global Licensed Training Provider in Italy and is now able to offer the complete range of MJI training and testing, comprising both theory and practical elements covering hand and hydraulically torqued and tension bolted connection techniques.
ECITB Head of Commercial Tristan Kemp visited UVIT’s training facility on the outskirts of Milan to present the official ECITB Licensed Training Provider plaque to Lorenzo Cuzzocrea (Engineering After Sales), Marco Gianfreda (Lab Manager and Trainer) and Ivan Barbieri (Sales Director) (pictured).
Founded in 1965, UVIT sells and rents a full range of more than 1,000 hydraulic tools from manufacturers such as Hytorc, Norbar, TensionPro, Unigrind and Mirage, with its customers coming largely from the energy, wind, petrochemical, construction, transport and mechanical engineering sectors.
And now it also offers MJI courses at its headquarters in Peschiera Borromeo to the east of Milan.

UVIT helping increase safety and efficiency
The MJI Scheme was developed by the ECITB and industry experts in 2011 to address hydrocarbon release issues to both increase levels of competency and reduce accidents.
The objective of the scheme is to develop the knowledge and skills required to dismantle, prepare, secure and reassemble mechanical joint connections.
UVIT now provides certified practical and theoretical MJI training, allowing workers to acquire the necessary skills to use tightening and tensioning equipment safely and efficiently.
“We are pleased to announce that UVIT is now authorised by ECITB to provide training and certification courses at our headquarters in Italy,” said UVIT Sales Director Ivan Barbieri.
“This authorisation makes us the first and only centre in Italy to offer the hydraulically torqued and tension bolted connection techniques course, specific to train certified personnel on tightening and tensioning procedures and techniques.
“Our qualified staff have the technical and practical knowledge to provide ECITB courses for industries that require precise tightening control, such as oil and gas, petrochemical, energy and construction industries.
“Investing in tightening training is essential to ensure the quality of work and the safety of operations. The use of a manual torque wrench may appear to be a low-risk activity for the safety and integrity of the worker, however incorrect use can lead to very high risks for the safety of a plant or the final quality of a product.”
